Bracknell Forest Council Good Practice for Effective Participation

A key focus from local authorities is to ensure that parent/carer's of children and young people (CYP) are seen as an equal in decision making that involves them and the larger SEND CYP community. Bracknell PCF are Bracknell's key partner in engaging with the larger community and the first principle of the SEND Improvement Strategy 2017 – 2020 is a commitment to the individual.

Bracknell Forest Council have written a good practice guide that is aimed at staff who work with parents and carer's with a particular focus around co-production.

There are many aspects in this document that are important statements of guidance to staff, particularly:

1. Parents/carer's are treated as equals to the professionals. No one body is more important that the other.

2. Meetings should be held between 10am and 2pm to avoid school run and child care issues outside of school hours. However, Bracknell PCF would also promote evening meetings so that members who are only available in the evening can attend.
