POET Survey Feedback - June 2018

Bracknell Forest Council are appreciative of the feedback they received from Bracknell PCF members through the recent POET survey. They have asked us to provide you with some initial feedback via the following letter that I have copied below for your ease and I've also linked the original letter emailed to us.

Letter from Kashif Nawaz, Interim Head of SEND, 26 June 2018.

Dear Parent/Carer

Your Views Matter to Us

We recently contacted you to ask you to help us to improve the service we deliver for Children and Young People with Special Educational Needs and Disability. This survey asked questions on the statutory assessment process and your experience of the planning of your son or daughter’s education.

We would like to thank you for taking the time to help us by completing and returning the survey as well as for the range of insightful comments that you have been made. I assure you that we value your experiences and that these returns will be carefully considered as we continue to look to improve our services.

There were two issues which were particularly important to you and are potentially confusing. They were:

  1. Personal budgets and

  2. Key workers

1) Personal Budgets: Personal Budgets and direct payments offer transparency concerning the funding for your son or daughters Special Educational Needs as stated in an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP). Further details can be found in the local offer for Bracknell Forest at the following page:

2) Key Worker: A key worker is an adult who has special responsibility for the education and welfare for the child named in the EHCP during the time the plan is in place. A key worker will ensure that the needs of the child are recognised and met in the context of the plan. This can be any professional but will always be the one considered to be best placed. Examples include the SENCo, class teacher, social worker, family members, classroom assistant, health specialist etc.

In addition to these points, there were a number of other areas we need to further consider and ensure that you are aware of the details. For this purpose, we will aim to communicate with you through the Bracknell Forest Parent and Carer forum more frequently to give you an update of certain developments that you may find useful.

Thank you very much for your time.

Yours sincerely

Kashif Nawaz
