Day in the Life: Understanding the Reality of SEND in Bracknell Forest
We have created two Day in the Life videos to help professionals, services, and the wider community better understand the lived experiences of families with SEND in Bracknell Forest.
Video 1: The Impact of Delayed Support
Our first film highlights what happens when support is delayed, when parent carers are blamed, and when children’s needs are misunderstood. It shows the emotional and practical impact this has on families, and why timely, needs‑led support is essential.
Video 2: The Daily Reality for Parent Carers
The second film focuses on the everyday challenges parent carers face and the pressures they navigate. It also sets out the key considerations professionals need to make when working with families—empathy, communication, flexibility, and a genuine understanding of need.
Together, these videos offer an honest, powerful insight into the experiences of SEND families and the changes needed to ensure support is timely, respectful, and effective.

Bracknell PCF Annual SEND Services Survey
Independent, anonymous, and shaped by parent carers
Each year, Bracknell Parent Carer Forum is funded by the Department for Education to run an independent survey about SEND services in our local area. This survey is completely separate from the council, health services, schools, and any organisations that deliver SEND provision. That independence matters. It means the questions, data and analysis are shaped by parent carers, not by the services being reviewed. It also means families can answer openly and honestly, knowing that every response is anonymous and handled only by Bracknell PCF.
Over the last five years, the survey has grown in depth and detail. Parent carers now share richer feedback, more examples, and more insight into what life is really like. Because the survey is repeated each year, we can compare results over time and build a clear picture of what is changing — and what is not.
Many of the questions stay the same each year for a very deliberate reason. While local area partners may feel that certain changes or improvements have made a difference, our year‑on‑year data shows whether families are actually experiencing those improvements. Often, the data highlights that changes made “on paper” are not yet being felt by parent carers.
By keeping the survey independent, consistent and detailed, we can track real trends, highlight persistent issues, and provide evidence that reflects lived experience — not assumptions. This strengthens our ability to challenge, advocate, and ensure that improvements genuinely make a difference for children and young people with SEND in Bracknell Forest.

Our first independent survey, setting the baseline for all future comparison.

More families took part, sharing detailed examples and early trends.

Expanded questions and a large increase in written comments. Three‑year comparison across education, health and social care.

Shows whether service changes were actually being felt by families. Highlights progress and persistent challenges.

Our most detailed report yet, with more quotes and insight than ever. Five‑year trends showing what still needs to change.
