Bracknell Forest Local Area Partnership – SEND Monitoring Inspection Announced 28 September 2026
Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) have confirmed that they will be carrying out a SEND Monitoring Inspection in Bracknell Forest between 12th and 14th October 2026. This inspection will assess how effectively the Local Area Partnership has responded to the three Priority Action Areas identified in the last SEND inspection (February 2025).
Why a Monitoring Inspection?
Inspectors want to understand whether the changes made since the last inspection are improving the experiences and outcomes of children and young people with SEND — and whether families feel the difference. As this is a monitoring inspection, the focus is solely on progress against the three Priority Action Areas.
Priority Action Area 1: Leadership, Data & Governance
Leaders in Bracknell Forest Council and Frimley ICB need to work together more effectively.
The Local Area must have a clear, consistent process for identifying the needs of children and young people with SEND.
A stronger governance structure is required to oversee and monitor the whole SEND system.
Governance must provide effective oversight, accountability and regular monitoring of SEND improvement.
Priority Action Area 2: Multi‑Agency Working & Commissioning
The Local Area Partnership needs more effective and joined‑up systems for understanding SEND needs.
These systems must help identify gaps in current commissioning arrangements.
Partners must work together to bridge those gaps so children and young people receive the right support.
Stronger commissioning will help children and young people with SEND achieve their best possible outcomes.
Priority Action Area 3: EHCP Quality & Annual Reviews
The Local Area Partnership must take immediate action to improve the quality of EHCPs and annual reviews.
Plans must accurately reflect up‑to‑date education, health and care needs.
EHCPs must clearly identify the provision required from all agencies involved in meeting those needs.
Annual reviews must ensure plans remain current, accurate and responsive to changing needs.
About the Inspection
Monitoring inspections do not include a parent carer survey issued by Ofsted. However, Bracknell Forest PCF will be sharing evidence from the SEND Services Survey 2025, alongside a new short “MAD, SAD, GLAD” snapshot survey to capture current experiences.

Role of Bracknell Forest Parent Carer Forum (PCF)
Bracknell Forest PCF will meet directly with inspectors to share parent carer views on progress since the last inspection.
Inspectors have asked the PCF to arrange a small meeting of up to 8 PCF representatives, representing the work the PCF has been involved in as part of the SEND improvement work.
The inspectors will be reaching out to families as part of their inspection about specific areas of focus on the improvement journey
